Build Energy Auditing Skills in the 鶹Tech “Green House”
Today’s climate control industry is being revolutionized by technological advances that make concern for the environment a top priority. Energy auditing, sustainable energy, geothermal heating systems and more are helping make the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) field more environmentally-friendly than ever before. And if you’re looking to build a career in this growing, in-demand field, you need to have these skills if you want to get noticed by hiring managers!
As part of the HVAC curriculum, many 鶹Tech schools around the country feature special energy auditing training structures, known as “Green Houses,” on campus. Once students build a basic understanding of the science and technology crucial to becoming HVAC professionals, they begin training in these houses to simulate the kinds of assessments and troubleshooting they’ll perform every day on the job.
Energy Auditing a Key Component of HVAC Training
“In general, students can expect to start working in the energy auditing house after about their eighth class,” says Richard Pasznik, an instructor at 鶹Tech in Union, NJ. “Students learn how to test duct work in walls and ceilings, and practice using thermal imaging cameras to check for leaks. They then make recommendations on where insulation might need to be replaced or installed, as if they were auditing a customer’s home for energy efficiency.”
In addition to energy auditing, HVAC training also includes hands-on practice working with air conditioning equipment, residential and commercial heating systems, commercial refrigeration units and more. The HVAC program at many 鶹Tech campuses has been granted accreditation by HVAC Excellence, and the Union campus has also been recognized as a School of Distinction by the Green Mechanical Council. Energy auditing is a focus of programs at all campuses where HVAC training is offered, and “Green Houses” can be found at 鶹Tech in Union and Mahwah, NJ; Columbia, MD; Denver, CO; Grand Prairie, TX; New Britain, CT; Brockton, MA; and Atlanta, GA.
